Chuck vs. The Virus - A Daily Diary
Held Over by Popular Demand!
In the late winter/ early spring of 2020, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic spread across the globe. On Nantucket Island, Chuck the Seagull warily kept an eye on the virus. There were daily briefings by the Coronavirus Task Force led by the Vice President and starring Doctors Birx and Fauci. By March 13, the President declared a State of Emergency. Nantucket started to shut down on March 17. On March 23, Governor Baker issued shut down orders statewide. On March 24 Chuck decided to find a way to help understand and perhaps soften the sudden impacts of sheltering at home, wearing masks, keeping 6 feet apart and making sense of why people were hoarding toilet paper. The impact on Nantucket was difficult. People stayed home, schools shut, the hospital started testing, restaurants closed and then adapted to curbside pick up and many other businesses not considered essential had to close until further notice. The island escaped the brunt of the virus with only 14 cases and 1 death, but the rest of America and the world shared the overall burden.
From March 24 to May 17, here is Chuck the Seagull and his family's daily diary of managing to keep things positive...
